In 2003 Dynatrac was the first company to engineer the Free-Spin™ manual locking hub conversion kit to replace the problematic unit wheel bearings found on Ford Super Duty and Dodge Ram Heavy Duty ¾- and 1-ton 4x4 pickup trucks. Unitized wheel bearings are especially prone to wear on lifted applications with bigger tires, and on trucks used for commercial purposes that see heavy-duty use all day, every day. The Dynatrac Free-Spin locking hub conversion kit reduces parasitic friction and wear on the front axleshafts, ring and pinion, differential bearings, and front driveshaft and U-joints. Reduced friction equates to increased fuel economy and decreased drivetrain noise on the highway. The Dynatrac Free-Spin kit is the only locking hub conversion kit that is 100 percent made in the U.S. Each Dynatrac Free-Spin kit features one-piece forged, heat-treated, solid chromoly, fixed spindles that simply bolt onto your steering knuckles in place of the unit bearings. These spindles provide greater wheel-bearing separation for longer bearing life and increased strength and durability. Unlike the stock unit bearings, the Dynatrac Free-Spin wheel bearings are completely serviceable. The bearings, races, and seals are all common over-the-counter components that you can find at your local auto parts store. The included Timken bearings ride in nodular-iron wheel hubs loaded with forged wheel studs. All Dynatrac Free-Spin bearings feature metal cages for the rollers that promote long life. Factory unit bearings have plastic bearing cages for the rollers, which can melt from heat when the grease becomes contaminated, causing the bearings to fail and your truck to become immobilized. New stub axles, also made in the U.S., are forged from double heat-treated chromoly. Dynatrac Free-Spin kits are available with Warn or Dynatrac DynaLoc™ manual locking hubs. Like the rest of the kit, DynaLoc hubs are 100 percent U.S.-made. They feature a unique interlocking tooth design, which makes them three times stronger than traditional Dana 60 manual locking hubs. This is the first truly new locking hub design in 20 years. Internal gears are made from heat-treated chromoly steel with a special tooth design that won’t disengage under a high-torque load. DynaLoc manual locking hubs engage and disengage with only an 1/8 of a turn, and default to a locked position for reliable operation that will never leave you stuck and stranded. Dynatrac Free-Spin conversion kits are available with the customer’s choice of either Warn or Dynatrac DynaLoc manual locking hubs in the following applications:
